International Printing Museum — Los Angeles Printers Fair.
last saturday was some letterpress goodness. we had a fun visit to the LA Printers Fair at the international printing museum.
despite the 100-degree weather, the exhibits, demos, swapmeet, and vendor booths were fantastic. we had a chance to take a tour and get the schpeel on the history of printing. saw some super rad demos. and drooled over all the history-ridden machinery and letter cases. here are some pics from the day…
the plate that ran all the flags.
some flags.
demo of recasting the lead to make new type.
demo of a book plate print.
neato woodtype art on the walls.
ahh, cases. lots of them.
ahh, machinery. very advanced machinery – the linotype.

and on another note, primate design will be going through a minor consolidation in the next month or so. as pd reaches it’s 10-year mark, i’ve decided to combine my school adventures with my work and i’m opening an art space in downtown fullerton. primate design will operate as normal, however the look and contents of this blog will be slightly different. this blog and the store’s blog will be one. the name of the store will be project art school, or PÄS for short (pronounced pause). because that’s exactly the goal of the space. a place to slow down and appreciate the details. to soak in. linger. then go on to create on your own. it will be used to encompass art – to sell art supplies that the local students need, to host gallery exhibits, workshops and the like, to chill and be inspired, and as the primate design studio. stay tuned, there’s more to come…
