John M. Sollom at the South Bay Contemporary

Happy Summer Art Lovers,
Our dear friend and prolific artist, John Sollom currently has an exhibit at South Bay Contemporary (formerly Zask Gallery) in San Pedro. There is an artist reception on Saturday, June 11 from 6-9pm. Here’s the facebook event: www.facebook.com/events/1038584329529453
Come out!

He’s a mad man these days having painted over 300 paintings just for this show. “300 paintings for Sue” is a compilation of what I like to call his Handy Man work. John taught me how to frame walls, install doors/windows, hang drywall, patch/paint, frame/hang art, you name it! He is truly a renaissance man of the craft. This body of work displays vintage tone settings of many the forgotten skills of a true handy man. These oil paintings are on 8″ x 8″ panels and can stand alone in a frame or, as in this show, compiled to make one large masterpiece. He’s known for his signature thick, loose brush stroke that carries extreme likeness of his subjects, but I’ve always appreciated his sense of composition. His grids, colors, and use of type is what attracted me to his work seven years ago.
